Does anyone have any recommendations for nationwide bank/credit union directories, other than the pricey, 5-volume sets? Even better would be an online directory that serves as a one-stop shopping alternative to Googling or using Switchboard.com.

Katie, what do you need the listing for?

Hey Katie,
We have an online bank directory on SmartHippo.com, It includes around 500 banks I believe. Not sure if it’s an alternative to Google, but perhaps a start: http://www.smarthippo.com/about/bank_directory

Katie, the FDIC has a list of all institutions you can download.

Scroll down the page and near the bottom you will see the following:
Download the list of all institutions.
Follow the instructions and you are good to go to enjoy over 27,000 rows of data.

Thank you both so much for your feedback. We actually found a free web source, www.routingtool.com, that allows us to verify bank routing numbers and lists contact and address information. We’re going to try that out for a while. Similar to what smarthippo sounds like, it only requires accessing one site (that has been whitelisted) so that there aren’t any issues with tellers gaining access to the resources from the more Internet-restricted PCs. Thanks again!
